Top Domain Names Sold Dec.7

Past Week Produces a Trio of Six-Figure Sales Including One of the Year's Ten Biggest Country Code Transactions

After America's Thanksgiving Holiday break the week before last buyers were back in the market over the past seven days with ccTLDs again drawing a lot of attention from domain shoppers. A trio of six-figure sales paced the action, led by Sedo's $300,000 sale of SC.com. The buyer was the Standard Chartered Bank, a firm that operates primarily in Asia, Africa and the Middle East.

Sedo also sold six of the seven country code domains that crashed the all extension Top 20 chart this week. The big dog in that pack was Seks.nl ("sex" in Dutch), a domain that commanded €200,000 ($258,000) to rank as the year's 7th biggest ccTLD sale. Four more .nl (Netherlands country code) domains made the Big Board, including #10 Daten.nl ("to date" in Dutch) at €18,000 ($23,220)

The third six-figure sale was Igen.com, a name that generated $100,000 at NameJet.com. That was one of a dozen .coms on the elite list. The only non .com global TLD to make the leader board was #6 Games.mobi, a domain that rang up $44,000 at Sedo. Sedo wound up leading all venues by sweeping 11 of the 21 chart entries (the extra spot resulted from a three-way tie for the final position).

Every domain on the Top 20 hit at least five figures, an impressive performance considering that only one charted domain was a live auction sale (those special events typically produce waves of high dollar sales that can sometimes dominate the charts). The lone live auction representative was #4 (tie) EFS.com, finally completed this week after being sold by RickLatona.com in their T.R.A.F.F.I.C. New York auction. Latona also brokered a pair of top ten sales, facilitating a deal that sent TennisRackets.com and TennisRacket.com to a new owner for $25,000 each.

One other venue had multiple chart entries as the AfternicDLS collected three gold medals. Their list was led by #9 WelcomeHome.com at $24,000. Here is how all of the leaders stacked up for the week ending Sunday, December 7:
